Mt Kilimanjaro - 2005
When Bern sat at the summit of Kilimanjaro in October 2003, he decided that he needed to find a way to take other disabled people to the spot at which he was sitting. Something that before Bern, had not been achieved with the disabled bodies own “steam”.
In May this year, Bern fulfilled that dream by taking a fellow disabled with a prosthetic leg, Frank, up Kilimanjaro. Accompanied by a team mate from his first expedition, Frank, a team from Carte Blanche, Sean Wisedale (Mount Everest summiteer), a photographer and his travel agent as well as a team of porters, set off for the summit. Mt Kilimanjaro - 2003
Bern was bored …. He needed some adventure in his life as well as resolution to a family matter. After a few jokes about being carried up Kilimanjaro and a few conversations over rugby games, Bern decided that maybe it was possible for him to experience the “Roof of Africa” but was determined to do this with his own steam. Planning started and sponsors came forward making his dream possible.
